Gross, stone, other, net and fine are stored separately on every item, movement and document line. Metal is priced on net, stones are priced on their own terms, and neither is inferred from the other.

The moment a piece has stones in it, one weight stops being enough. The model carries five, and the database refuses a piece whose weights do not reconcile.
The identity is enforced, not requested
Gross must be at least net plus stone plus other, to a milligram, as a database check constraint. It holds for the bulk import and the offline counter too — not just the form somebody remembered to validate.
Certificates travel with the piece
Certificate and hallmark references are carried on the item, so what was sold can be traced back to what was certified.
